James Gunn to Direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3

James Gunn has confirmed today on Facebook that he will be returning to write and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.  No, GoTG 2 did not come out yet, but it appears that Marvel is feeling confident that the sequel to the 2014 suprise blockbuster will be just as successful as the first.  Gunn wrote in his post that a lot of his decision to write and direct GoTG 3 had to do with his love for the characters and his working relationship with Marvel and Disney, which he described as "the best of his professional career".

Gunn also wrote about the state of the MCU as it is now and will be after Avengers: Infinity War.  Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be taking place after that and he says the conclusion of of Infinity War will "help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond". Gunn also wrote that him and Kevin Feige (president of Marvel Studios) will be working together to design further stories in order to keep the "Marvel Cosmic Universe as authentic and magical as it has been so far".  I'd expect to see some more space-based Marvel movies once Infinity War wraps up, but we have a ton more films to get through until then.

So what do you guys think? Happy that Gunn is staying around? Looking forward to more Marvel movies in space? Let us know!
