Marvel's New Warriors Has Been Cast-Squirrel Girl Confirmed

So you might remember a few months back, Marvel released a trailer for a Cloak and Dagger show that was to premier on Freeform (formerly ABC Family if you don't recognize the new name).  That's not the only Marvel property coming to that channel-a New Warriors show is also in the works, and Marvel just released the cast list.  The Marvel comedy is going to be headed by the following crew: Squirrel Girl (played by Milana Vayntrub from This is Us and Silicon Valley), Mister Immortal (Derek Theler from Baby Daddy), Night Thrasher (Jeremy Tardy from Dear White People and Ten Days in the Valley), Speedball (Calum Worthy from Austin & Ally and Cassandra French's Finishing School), Microbe (Matthew Moy from 2 Broke Girls and Steven Universe) and Debrii (Kate Comer from Hello, My Name is Doris and The Comeback).  Where Cloak and Dagger is a drama, New Warriors is going to be a comedy show.  It sounds like that the show will focus on this group of teenage superheroes learning how to use their powers while dealing with all of the joys of being a teenager.  This will be Marvel's first live-action comedy, and it looks like they are going all out to make sure they have some star power behind it.

Now if you aren't familar with the New Warriors, don't worry-you won't need to read dozens of issues for 6 different superheroes in order to catch up for the show. You can think of the New Warriors as a teenage Avengers (not to be confused with the Young Avengers) and the team usually consists of the not as well-known teen heroes of the Marvel universe.  In the various iterations in which the group existed, you can usually find at least one bigger name attached: Nova and Scarlet Spider may be the biggest two names associated with the New Warriors.  As for the members of the show, here's a quick rundown of what they can do:

Squirrel Girl-Has the amazing ability to communicate with Squirrels.  She's beaten Thanos with this power.

Mister Immortal-He's immortal.  Whenever anything 'kills' him, he just comes back to life

Night Thrasher-Skilled martial artist and is resistant to psionic powers.

Speedball-He can manipulate kinetic energy.  He can use this to either protect himself or harm others.

Microbe-He can interact with microorganisms.  He can use this power to find people, make others sick, or otherwise anything else you could do with an army of bacteria.

Debrii-She has telekinesis.  She can use this power to control objects or make herself levitate.

There is potential here for an endless number of episodes with what Marvel has to work with.  There's no word on a premiere date for the New Warriors beyond a 2018 date, but we'll be sure to keep everyone updated once we know more.

So how about you? Fan of the New Warriors? Like the cast? Let us know!
